Satkhira Jamaat Ameer Khalek Mandol arrested

Police arrested Satkhira district unit Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and former lawmaker Maulana Abdul Khalek Mandol in possession of a foreign pistol and two rounds of bullet from a secret meeting in Sadar upazila early Tuesday. Sub-inspector of DB Kamal Hossain, spokesman of the district police, said in a press release, being tipped off, a team of police raided Khalilnagar Madrasa in Sadar upazila while a group of Jamaat leaders and activists, including Khalek, were holding a secret meeting there at about 5:30am. Sensing the presence of the police, Jamaat activists blasted a few bombs and fled the scene. But police managed to arrest Khalek with the firearms. The release said Khalek had been arrested on February 8 last on charge of carrying out subversive activities. A few days ago he got bail and started plotting to carry out sabotage, police claimed, according to a news agency.
