A local activist of Jamaat-e-Islami suffered bullet injuries in a ‘shootout’ between Jamaat activists and police at Satkhira’s Debhata upazila on Thursday. The injured is Faruque Hossain, 48, of Dakkhin Parulia village of Debhata. Officer-in-charge of Debhata Police Station Quazi Jalauddin said they, along with Faruk, an accused in a number of cases, including the one for Awami League leader Abu Raihan murder, were on a drive in Sushilgati area in the early hours of Thursday. At one stage, the OC said, miscreants hurled 7-8 crude bombs at the law enforcers when they had been in Sushilgati around 4:00am. In retaliation, police fired six gunshots. Faruque received bullets in the line of fire. He was admitted to Sadar Hospital, according to a news agency.
