Sunday, 26 April 2009

The South Asian University (SAU), an initiative of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), is set to start its first academic session in 2010 with its main campus in New Delhi, reports UNB.
"Now negotiations are on to concurrently introduce its (SAU) regional campus in each SAARC member country," Prof Dr Imtiaz Ahmed of Dhaka University's International Relations department told the news agency.
Prof Imtiaz made the disclosure as he took part in the third meeting of the Inter-Governmental Expert Group Steering Committee as its member. The meeting was held in India in mid-April.
Additional Secretary of Finance Ministry Arastoo Khan and Deputy Director (SAARC) of Foreign Ministry Kazi Imtiaz Hossain also attended the two-day meeting.
Dr Imtiaz said the main campus of the university would be set up in Delhi with complete residential facility with an intake of 5,000 students.
He went on: SAU would not be a traditional institute. Its different campuses would facilitate SAARC nations to tackle world challenges, giving a boost to South Asian collective realisation.
