RIYADH, Jul 30 (AFP): Saudi Arabia fans buried the disappointment of their team's Asian Cup final defeat to Iraq and took consolation that the title went to another Arab country.
Many Saudi supporters had their faces painted in the team's national colours and watched the action from Jakarta unfold on giant TV screens erected in cafes across the country.
"The Asian Cup title has gone to a brother Arab country," said one young supporter who watched the 1-0 defeat.
TV sports commentator Talal Al-Cheikh said: "It was a great Arab final. The Iraqi team deserved to win'', he added.
