Save our gas resources from corrupt people
Friday, 18 April 2014
Recently, two employees of Titas Gas have been suspended for being engaged in providing illegal connections. Finally, legal steps are taken against corrupt officials of Titas, known for corruption, from where many low level employees like metre readers have made their fortunes. Even a visit to Titas Gas office is enough to detect a trail of corruption there. But, unfortunately, we don't see any tangible steps taken against the corrupt employees of Titas.
A Truth Commission started working from August 2008. Sixty-four Titas Gas employees were reported to have deposited Tk 340 million taking bribe. We can easily understand the depth of corruption from the above figures. Political parties pledge to deal with corruption just before an election but once they assume power, they forget their pledge and work with corrupt people to change their own fate. It is an irony. The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) should grill some of the big fish of Titas so that corruption is done away with. If we can reduce corruption, we don't have to run after the donors and accept their illogical terms and conditions.
