Save Sukair Zamindar house
Monday, 26 January 2026
There is an old zamindar house in Sukair village of Dharampasha Upazila, Sunamganj, that carries nearly 400 years of history. Once known as the royal palace of Bhati Bengal, it stands as an important example of Mughal-era architecture. Built in 1696 by Zamindars Rajib Roy Chowdhury, Mohanlal Roy Chowdhury, and Keshab Roy Chowdhury on approximately 25 acres of land, the mansion originally had three sections, all of which still partially remain.
Years of neglect, however, have left the house in a dilapidated state, with parts collapsing and posing risks to visitors. Despite this, people from across the country continue to visit, drawn by its aesthetic and architectural beauty. With proper renovation, this historic heritage could be preserved and developed into a notable tourist destination.
In the interest of heritage conservation, I respectfully urge the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to renovate the Sukair Zamindar House. Preserving such monuments is crucial for safeguarding our cultural legacy for future generations.
