Saving children from violence
Wednesday, 15 June 2022
A recent survey has found that around 96 per cent of children face torture at home at the hands of their parents and about 82 per cent of children face repressive behaviour in educational institutions. The survey questions the whole culture of parenting in Bangladesh and our mentality towards handling our younger generations. What is more worrying is that parents do not feel sad for this and appear to take pride in disciplining their children with physical punishment.
This is a violation of children's rights. Most of our children are growing up with bitter experience of domestic violence. It is contrary to their right to a safe and stable home environment. We urge everyone to take appropriate measures to protect children from all forms of violence at home and in educational institutions.
