Saving guest birds

Saturday, 14 December 2024

Every winter, thousands of guest birds come to the wetlands and haors of Bangladesh. These birds travel from faraway lands like Siberia, Mongolia, China, and Tibet. Their arrival makes our environment more beautiful and helps nature stay balanced. They also attract tourists, helping local economy to grow.
Sadly, these birds are now in danger. Many people hunt and kill them illegally, either for money or just for fun. This happens more and more, especially in wetlands and remote areas. As a result, the number of guest birds is decreasing, which is harmful to nature.
Administrative action is needed to protect these birds. Strict enforcement of laws against hunting can help. Awareness campaigns can make people realise how important these birds are for nature and our economy. Schools and colleges can teach students about the need to protect wildlife. Local communities should also come forward in protecting these birds.
