Monday, 1 December 2014

War crimes convict Delawar Hossain Sayedee has been shifted to Dhaka Central Jail from a prison ward of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BMSSU). Sayedee, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, was taken to the Central Jail in Old Dhaka from the MSMMU in Shahbagh area after his medical check-up was completed there on Monday afternoon. The 74-year-old was first taken to Gazipur District Hospital after he said that he felt chest pain at Kashimpur High Security Jail in Gazipur on Sunday. He was transferred to the prison ward of the BSMMU around 3am on Monday. Doctors found nothing serious after checking Sayedee's health, said Forman Ali, senior jail super of Dhaka Central Jail. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on September 17 commuted Sayedee's death sentence handed down by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 for his crimes against humanity committed during Bangladesh’s independence struggles in 1971, according to private TV channels.
