SB heist: Rab nabs mastermind from Bhairab

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested the main planner of the Kishoreganj Sonali Bank (SB) heist from Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj district early Saturday. The arrested was identified as Siraj, uncle-in-law of Habibur Rahman Habib alias Sohel whom the elite force arrested along with the looted money from Shyampur in the capital on January 28. Contacted, Additional Director General of Rab (Operations) Colonel Ziaul Ahsan told UNB that acting on a tip-off, a team of the Bhairab camp of Rab-9 conducted a drive at a village at Bhairab and arrested Siraj at about 5:00 am. Earlier on January 28, the crime buster arrested Habibur Rahman and his associate Idrish Ali along with Tk 16.19 crore of the looted Tk 16.40 crore, stuffed in five sacks, from Shyampur in the capital. Burglars from the rented house of Habib tunneled their 30-foot way into the vault of Sonali Bank’s main branch at Rathkhola and looted about Tk 164 million on January 24. The incident came to light on January 26.
