Friday, 17 August 2007

The Supreme Court (SC) Thursday heard two government appeals against bail granted to Sheikh Hasina in two extortion cases and adjourned the hearing until August 26, reports bdnews24.com.
The cases against Awami League chief were filed by businessmen Noor Ali and Azam Jahangir Chowdhury.
The court also heard the government appeal against the High Court (HC) stay order on the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) notice on detained former prime minister for submission of her wealth statement.
A full bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Md Ruhul Amin, heard the appeals, which the government filed Wednesday.
Hearings on the appeals had earlier been deferred several times by the SC.
Meanwhile, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court has deferred charge framing against Hasina in the Azam J Chowdhury extortion case until September 5.
Advocate on record, M Khalequzzaman, filed the appeals on the government's behalf.
Khalequzzaman told the news agency another 'regular appeal' has also been filed against the HC's bail order on former FBCCI president Abdul Awal Mintoo.
