SC cancels bail to lifer SP

The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday overrode a High Court order that granted bail to former senior police official who was sentenced to life imprisonment by a lower court in a bribery case filed in 2003. Following an appeal filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), a five-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain, asked Mostafa Kamal, former Railway police super of Syedpur and former SP of Habiganj district, to surrender before the lower court within two weeks. Barrister Rokonuddin Mahmud stood for Mostofa Kamal while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC, according to a news agency.
