SC chamber judge stays HC bail to ex-mayor Ivy

The Supreme Court (SC) has stayed a High Court (HC) order that granted bail to, former Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in five separate cases.
The Appellate Division's Chamber Court has also sent the matter to its regular bench and fixed November 17 for detail hearing.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Rezaul Haque passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the state against the HC order on Wednesday.
Earlier on November 9 this year, a HC bench granted bail to Selina Hayat Ivy in five separate cases, including one filed over the killing of garment worker Minarul Islam during the July-August 2024 mass uprising.
The HC bench of Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Md Sagir Hossain passed the order after hearing on five separate petitions filed by Ivy seeking bail in the cases. Sbsequently, the state filed an appeal petition seeking a stay on the HC order.
Additional Attorney General Aneeq R Haque stood for the state, while Barrister Sara Hossain and Advocate Md Motahar Hossain Sazu appeared for Ivy.
