SC hears Khaleda appeal Thursday

Tuesday, 2 October 2007

The chamber judge of the Supreme Court Tuesday did not stay the bail to Khaleda Zia and sent the government appeal against the bail to the full bench of the Appellate Division for further hearing Thursday. Also, the chamber judge did not freeze the High Court stay order on cases against Arafat Rahman Coco, Tarique Rahman, Moudud Ahmed, Nazmul Huda and wife Sigma. Barrister Rafique-ul Huq, counsel for Khaleda, said: "Khaleda Zia is still on bail as the Supreme Court chamber judge did not stay the High Court order." The latest development came a day after the government and the Anticorruption Commission sought Supreme Court freezes on the High Court bail to the former prime minister and the stay on GATCO corruption case proceedings.
