The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday fixed July 5 for passing order on the government's petition against a High Court (HC) order granting bail to BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three violence cases, reports UNB.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division (AD), headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, fixed the date for giving the order after hearing on the petitions.
On June 28, the AD of SC turned down the government's petition against a HC order granting bail to Fakhrul.
On June 25, after concluding hearing on the government appeal, the bench of the AD fixed the date for giving the order.
Earlier on June 18, the HC granted bail to the BNP leader in three cases of violence.
Two of the cases were filed with Paltan thana while another with Motijheel thana.
On April 16, Mirza Fakhrul secured six months' bail from HC in another case filed with Paltan Police thana on January 04 for allegedly carrying out arson attack and vandalism.
On the same day, the court issued a rule asking the authorities concerned why Fakhrul should not be given bail in three other cases.
He was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital on June 13 following a HC order.
On January 06, plainclothes police picked up Fakhrul as he came out of the National Press Club after nearly 25 hours of stay there following BNP's announcement to observe January 5 as 'Democracy Killing Day', protesting the 10th parliamentary polls held on the day.
The BNP leader is now facing 79 cases.
