SC rejects Khaleda petitions
Tuesday, 25 November 2014
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has rejected two leave to appeal petitions BNP chief Khaleda Zia had filed over a case accusing her of graft in the Zia Orphanage Trust, report agencies.
A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain gave the order on Monday.
She had moved the SC with the petitions after separate pleas challenging the graft charges and her subsequent indictment were rejected by the High Court (HC) on Dec 14, 2011 and Apr 23 respectively.
The Supreme Court (SC) Monday upheld the C orders that had cleared the trial court to carry out proceedings in the graft case.
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, now living in the UK after securing bail in a dozen of cases, and four others of misappropriating over Tk 21 million that came as grants for orphans from a foreign bank.
Advocate Zainul Abedin and advocate AJ Mohammad Ali appeared forĀ Khaleda Zia while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam for the government.
