SC stays Dr Khandaker Mosharraf’s HC bail

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday stayed the bail granted by the High Court (HC) to BNP leader Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in a money laundering case. The Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain stayed the bail until September 2. The HC on July 9 granted permanent bail to detained BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in the case on three conditions. On July 13, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan filed an appeal before the Appellate Division seeking to stay the HC bail order. On February 6, ACC director Nasim Anwar filed the case against Dr Khandaker Mosharraf with Ramna Police Station in the city. According to the first information report (FIR), Dr Khandaker Mosharraf laundered more than 0.8 million British pound (equivalent to Tk 95.4 million) to the United Kingdom when he was the Health and Family Welfare Minister during 2001-2006. After examining the evidence and other documents, the ACC found a fixed term deposit of about 0.8m 40 thousand British pound in a joint account (AC 108492) of Dr Khandaker Mosharraf and his wife, Bilkis Akter Hossain, at Lloyds TSB Offshore Private Banking, Guernsey, according to UNB.
