SC stays HC order till Aug 25

FE REPORT | Thursday, 16 May 2024

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed until August 25 this year a High Court verdict that asked the jail authorities not to keep death sentence prisoners in the solitary confinement before the end of all legal processes.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the SC, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, granted the stay order after hearing an appeal filed by the government challenging the High Court verdict.
Advocate Mohammad Sishir Monir stood for the petitioner while Attorney General AM Amin Uddin represented the state.
The Chamber Judge also set August 25 for hearing the appeal by its full bench. The Chamber Judge also asked the government to file a leave to appeal petition with this court against the HC verdict by this time.
