Sunday, 2 February 2014

The Appellate Division has upheld the bail to four top BNP leaders, including its Standing Committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed. Besides, the apex court disposed the state appeal against the High Court order that granted bail to them. A five-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain, passed the order on Sunday morning dismissing four leave-to-appeal petitions filed by the government against the HC order. The other BNP leaders are the party’s Standing Committee members MK Anwar and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s special aide Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas. On January 21 last year, the High Court granted the interim bail to the five BNP stalwarts in two cases filed against them for vandalism and arson attacks on vehicles during the opposition party’s nationwide non-stop blockade and hartal programmes last year, according to a news agency.
