SC upholds Fakhrul\\\'s bail order

The Appellate Division (AD) of the Supreme Court (SC) upheld on Sunday the High Court (HC) order that granted bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three violence cases, reports UNB.
A four-member bench of the AD, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, passed the order rejecting the government's appeal.
Mirza Fakhrul's lawyer Barrister Ragib Rouf Chowdhury told the reporters that the bench stayed the HC order on his client's bail in the cases.
After concluding hearing on June 25, the government appeal, the AD bench fixed the date for giving the order.
Earlier on June 18, the HC granted bail to the BNP leader in three cases of violence.
An HC bench comprising Justice Nuruzzaman and Justice Abdur Rob passed the order, which will remain effective until police submit the charge sheets in the cases.
Two of the cases were filed with Paltan thana while another with Motijheel thana.
Mirza Fakhrul secured six months' bail on April 16, from HC in another case filed with Paltan thanaon January 04 for allegedly carrying out arson attack and vandalism.
On the same day, the court issued a rule asking the authorities concerned why Fakhrul should not be given bail in three other cases.
He was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital on June 13 following a HC order.
