SC upholds HC bail for Mirza Alamgir

Sunday, 28 June 2015

The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the High Court’s order granting bail to BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three violence-related cases. A four-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, granted the BNP leader bail until police filed their report on the three cases on Sunday. Now, there was no bar to the BNP acting secretary general’s release as he had already been bailed in four other cases by the High Court, his lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon said after the Appellate Division order. The state moved the Supreme Court, seeking a stay on the High Court’s bail order for Mirza Alamgir in the three cases filed with the Paltan and Motijheel police stations over vandalism, arson attacks on cars, and bombing during the opposition parties’ protests programmes, according to bdnews24.com.
