SC upholds HC order on medical technologists’ recruitment

The Supreme Court (SC) Sunday upheld a High Court (HC) order that stayed the recruitment process against 2,000 posts of medical technologists under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), reports UNB.
The five-member SC bench, headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain, passed the order after hearing an appeal filed by the Health Ministry challenging the HC order.
On January 18, 2013, an advertisement was published in the Daily Jugantor for recruiting medical technologists.
In the ad, it was stated that only candidates completing three years' diploma degree from the Institute of Health Technology under the State Medical Faculty of Bangladesh would be able to apply for the posts.
Challenging the legality of the conditions, six candidates holding medical diploma under Bangladesh Technical Education Board filed a writ petition with the High Court on February 19 last year.
Later, the HC stayed the effectiveness of the advertisement.
During the SC's hearing on Sunday, Barrister Mahbub Shafique, Shafique Ahmed and KM Hafizul Alam Hafiz stood for the petitioners while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the government.
