Thursday, 6 August 2015

The Appellate Division on Thursday upheld the High Court (HC) order that granted 6 months’ interim bail to BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed in five cases. The cases were filed against him in connection with street violence. A four-member bench of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC), headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, passed the order in a hearing on the government’s plea against the HC order granting interim bail to Rizvi in 8 cases for violence. The apex court, however, stayed the interim bail granted to the BNP leader by the HC in one of those 8 cases while fixed any day next week to give its judgment in connection with two other cases, Rizvi’s Lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon told reporters after the hearing on Thursday. On July 7, the HC granted the bail to Rizvi in 8 cases filed against him. An HC bench comprising Justice AKM Abdul Hakim and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das passed the order after a hearing on the BNP leader’s bail petition, according to a news agency.
