Monday, 1 December 2014
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected on Sunday BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's leave-to-appeal against a High Court verdict allowing framing of charges by a trial court in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case, reports UNB.
The full bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Justice M Muzammel Hossain, passed the order.
Barrister Khandaker Mahabub Hossain and AJ Mohammad Ali appeared for Khaleda Zia in the day's hearing, while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the government.
On July 6, Khaleda Zia filed the leave-to-appeal with the Supreme Court against the High Court order that rejected her review petition against framing of charges by the Dhaka Special Judges Court-3 in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
The case was filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on August 8, 2011.
Earlier, on November 24, the SC rejected two other leave-to-appeal petitions filed by Khaleda Zia against the High Court verdict against a trial court order in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
After Sunday's Appellate Division order, ACC lawyer Khurshed Alam Khan said, all the barriers to proceedings at lower courts in the two graft cases were removed.
