Sunday, 21 October 2007

BRAHMANBARIA, Oct 20: Acute scarcity of some life-saving medicines in the local drug stores is seriously affecting treatment of patients, sources said.
As tablets and injections of phenoberbiton, eye drops of cloramphenicol and vitamin-C tablets are not available in the local drug stores, patients at different hospitals are to purchase necessary medicines at much higher prices, sources added.
Representatives of some medicine companies said production of some drugs has been curtailed due to abnormal rise in prices of raw materials in local and international markets.
However, smuggled Indian medicines of such groups are also being sold at much higher prices in local drug stores, sources added.
In the situation, local people have urged the government to take necessary steps in this connection.
