SCB elects office-bearers

Mr Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury and Mr Md Rezaul Karim have been elected chairman and senior vice chairman respectively of Shippers' Council of Bangladesh (SCB) for the term 2012-2013. They were elected at the 30th annual general meeting (AGM) of the Council held in the city recently, said a press release. Chairman of the Council Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury presided over the meeting. The other elected office-bearers are: Vice Chairman Sanjit Kumar Das and directors ANM Saif Uddin, Md Atiqul Islam, Mohammad Fakhruddin, Syed Mostafizur Rahman Md Firoz Alam, Arzu Rahman Bhuiya, Abu Zafar Azad and Barkat e Khoda. A good number of general members, outgoing and incoming directors attended the meeting. The AGM reviewed and passed the decisions of the last year's AGM and approved the annual report of the current year and audited accounts of the last fiscal year. Welcoming the members at the AGM, the chairman explained the latest situation including recovery of the huge outstanding Freight Brokerage from shipping lines and requested all concerned to be united and work for the trade. Taking part in the discussion, most of the members expressed dissatisfaction over major shipping lines that neither comply with legal requirements, nor bother to be abided by the judgments of the High Court on the writs filed by them against payment of Freight Brokerage (FB) to SCB. After discussions, the meeting resolved current stalemate on recovery of FB from the shipping lines for about 1012 years shall be faced through all possible ways and means.
