SCBA demands punishment to culprits

Monday, 22 November 2010

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has condemned the explosion of Molotov cocktails on the premises of the Chief Justice's official residence and demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits, reports UNB.
On November 18, two Molotov cocktails were hurled towards the CJ's Hare Road residence in the capital at around 8:30 pm when Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque was in.
Addressing a press conference, SCBA Secretary Barrister M Bodruddoza Badal said, "This 'sensitive and unfortunate' incident undoubtedly threatens the judiciary as a whole - the judges, lawyers and litigants."
He suggested formation of separate police force along with an investigation cell under the judiciary to bring the perpetrators to justice, which is an urgent need of the time.
The SCBA secretary urged all quarters including ministers, other responsible persons and lawyers to refrain from politicising the case by making any advance remarks on the incident for the sake of fair and impartial investigation.
Mr Badal said the moment the lawyers of the apex court bar had launched movement against the oath taking of two 'controversial' additional High Court (HC) judges, a vested quarter was trying to "Fish in the troubled water" over the incident. He, however, did not specify the vested quarter.
