Wednesday, 26 November 2014

SYLHET, Nov 25 (UNB): The councillors of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) observed a two-hour work abstention Tuesday protesting the inclusion of the name of SCC mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury in the supplementary charge sheet in the former Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria murder case.
The city councillors abstained from work from 12.00 noon as part of their 15-day protest programme.
Speaking on the occasion, SCC panel mayor Advocate Saleh Ahmed Chowdhury alleged that the name of Ariful Haque Chowdhury was included in the charge sheet as part of a conspiracy against him.
They also demanded fair trial of the killing of the former finance minister without harassing the innocent.
Five people, including Kibria, were killed and 70 others injured in a grenade attack on a public meeting of local Awami League at Baidder Bazar in Sadar upazila of Habiganj on January 27, 2005.
