SCCI demands improvement of tourist facilities in Sylhet

OUR CORRESPONDENT | Wednesday, 21 October 2020

SYLHET, Oct 20: The Sylhet Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) has sent a set of proposals for overall improvement of the tourist spots in Sylhet region with a target to ensuring basic facilities including some infrastructures for visitors.
The demands also include deployment of tourist police and organising tourist guides on all the spots as petty incidents had been on a rise due to lack of security while hundreds of visitors from different regions come to those spots every day.
It may be stated here that the government has announced a sanction of taka 72.4 million for the tourism sector in Sylhet region recently through the ministry of tourism, the SCCI president told this correspondent this afternoon.
SCCI President ATM Shoeb in the letter addressed to the government, including the Deputy Commissioner and other officials called for timely execution of the long desired project.
The proposals include modern sanitation arrangement, security, children's corner, mothers' corner, breastfeeding room, dress change rooms, car park etc on the Bisnakandi and Jafflong sites.
The chamber officials demanded reconstruction of the Watch tower at Ratargul, as the authority clamped restrictions on the tourists from using it weeks ago. Besides, arranging modern speed boats for reaching the Ratargul swamp forest site is another important demand.
They demanded immediate execution of the 4-lane project on the Sylhet-Tamabil-Jafflong highway since the people travelling to the Jafflong, Sripur Tea garden etc suffer much due to the existing highway condition.
On the other hand, the SCCI officials demanded ensuring security measures on the riverbank since a good number of young people including students die every year by drowning. Better toilet and sanitation facilities alongside recreational facilities for children in the Jafflong area are very much needed.
