School H’ball tourney begins

The Polar Ice Cream 22nd School Handball Tournament for Boys and Girls began Wednesday at the Shaheed (Capt) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in the city, reports UNB.
In an opening day's Girls group match, Scholastica rout Shaheed Ramijuddin Cantonment School by 19-0 goals. Afifa scored nine goals and Laina made five goals for Scholastica which dominated the first half 7-0.
Meanwhile, Shaheed Nabi High School beat Siddheswari Girls High School by 10-2 goals. Shirin scored five goals and Tasbiha three goals for the winners which dominated the first half by 6-2. Barsha Ahmed scored two goals for the losers.
In another match on the day, Shaheed Nabi High School tasted their 2nd victory beating Motijheel Colony High School by 5-2 goals. Tasbiha scored three goals for the winners which dominated the first half 2-0. Khaleda Akter scored two goals for the losers.
In all, 32 metropolis school handball teams, comprising 15 of boys and 17 of girls, are taking part in the meet, organised by Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF).
Earlier, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the meet as the chief guest while Director of Polar Ice Cream KM Touhiduzzaman was present as special guest. BHF president AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul presided over the function.
BHF General Secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor, Marketing Manager of the meet's sponsor Polar Ice Cream Abdullah Al Mamun, tournament committee chairman for boys Golam Habib and for girls Hamida Begum, and tournament secretary Salim Miah Babu were present at the opening ceremony.
The finals of both boys and girls group will be held on September 9 at the same venue.
