Monday, 2 January 2012

All primary and secondary schools and madrasahs across the country celebrated the 'Textbook Distribution Festival' Sunday, marking the free distribution of textbooks among students on the first day of the new year, reports UNB.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid formally inaugurated the festival through distributing books at the city's Viqarunnisa Noon School in the morning.
Later, Nahid distributed books among the students of Motijheel Govt Boys' High School. Education Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) chairman Prof Mustafa Kamaluddin and Secondary and Higher Education Board Director General Prof Noman Ur Rahid were present.
The government is distributing some 22,13,66,383 copies of new books among 3,12,13,759 students of primary, secondary and technical education schools, and Ebtedayee and Dakhil madrasahs this year.
Speaking on the occasion, Nurul Islam Nahid said that reaching new books to the students on the first day of the year was important as it helps improve the quality of education. "The results of the recent years are the examples," he said.
Meanwhile, Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr Afsarul Amin said that the government was printing multicolour books for primary students since it attracts them.
"As per demand, Bangla and English textbooks have been sent for the Bangladeshi students living abroad," he told a press conference at his office.
Afsarul Amin said almost half the students would receive books today (Sunday) while the remaining ones within next 2-3 days.
