School students demonstrate over fellow's death in road accident

Students of the Government Science High School demonstrated in the capital's Farmgate area on Monday, demanding justice for a fellow student who was killed in a road accident the day before.
Ali Hossain, 17, a class ten student of the school in Tejgaon, died after being hit by a microbus in the Tejgaon Industrial area on Sunday morning.
The students of Science High School blocked several roads in the Farmgate area at around 11:30 am braving the rain. Later, students of Tejgaon Govt High School and Tejgaon Model (Adarsha) High School joined them.
Vehicular movement was halted for about two hours in the area during the protest.
The agitating students demanded safety for them while commuting and also sought justice for all fellow students who were killed in road accidents in the past.
An official of Tejgaon Police Station said some students blocked the Farmgate area following the death of a student in a road accident on Sunday.
The protesters left the area around 1:00pm following request by the police and school authorities, he added
But the protesters said that they would demonstrate again on Tuesday (today).
Meanwhile, police arrested Ziaul Huq, 50, driver of the killer microbus, from the Bish-Mile area in Ashulia on Monday morning.
They also seized the vehicle, according to the police station concerned.
Victim Ali Hossain hailed from Krishnapur village under Muladi upazila in Barishal district.
The fatal incident happened at around 7:00 am on Sunday morning in Tejgaon Industrial area when Ali was crossing the road to go to his school - near Tejgaon Govt Science College.
He was first taken to a nearby hospital and then shifted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the attending doctor declared him dead around 8:30am.
He used to live with his family at Tejgaon's Kunipara.
