Friday, 21 February 2014

A collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a covered van left two people dead and three others injured in Comilla Sadar South upazila on Friday morning. One of the deceased was identified as Fakhrul Islam, a teacher of Harishchar School and College in the upazila. In-charge of Lalmai highway police camp Khorshed Alam said the Noakhali-bound covered van collided head-on with the three-wheeler at Harishchar on Comilla-Noakhli regional highway around 8 am, leaving an unidentified female passenger dead on the spot and four other people injured, including Fakhrul. The teacher succumbed to his injuries on the way to Comilla Medical College Hospital. Outraged by the accident, locals and students of the educational institution blocked the road and torched the covered van. However, the road blockade was withdrawn in the afternoon following police intervention, according to UNB.
