School's role in developing positive habits in students

Tuesday, 30 April 2024

We live in society. In other words, society cannot be conceived without people. Society is comprised of every human being. In the broadest sense, the entire state constitutes a society. Together with everyone in the world, we have built a global society.
The most crucial aspect of society is ethics and values. We have established schools and various educational institutions so that every child in society can become a good person. People primarily learn ethics from family, society, school, and religious places of worship.
Today, we observe educated individuals engaging in various forms of corruption and nefarious deeds. The working population and employees are not fulfilling their duties adequately. Educated youths are veering off course. This prompts questions about the quality of education in our minds. Therefore, there is no alternative to educating individuals in ethics and values to steer them in the right direction.
Hence, our educators need to step forward. Curricula need to be refined and revised. Every child in society should receive an education and be groomed to become a responsible citizen. School teachers bear the responsibility of nurturing students into responsible individuals from the primary and secondary levels.
In Japan, at the primary level, children are taught social ethics, leading a good life, discipline, honesty, and manners in schools. Similarly, in our educational institutions, greater emphasis needs to be placed on instilling and practising rules, manners, and ethics.
The cultivation of these positive habits in real life should commence in school. Numerous tasks should be incorporated into the curriculum to teach manners and discipline at each level, emphasising values in primary and secondary education.
A society does not progress solely due to its wealth of information and knowledge. Rather, responsible and honest individuals propel society forward. Schools contribute to creating informed and knowledgeable individuals. Likewise, they should endeavour to foster honest and responsible citizens. Teachers can steer students in the right direction. Merely achieving good academic results is insufficient; students must also develop into good people. This sentiment should be instilled in them, motivating them to cultivate positive thinking.
If we fail to nurture responsible citizens through education, questions about the efficacy of education will inevitably arise. We must cultivate a virtuous youth society through quality education. By nurturing a virtuous youth society, we will produce exemplary citizens. School teachers must take the lead in cultivating responsible citizens through education, ensuring that their students grow into worthy citizens.
