BEIJING, Aug 22 (AFP): Alex Schwazer of Italy won the men's 50 kilometres walk gold medal here Friday in a new Olympic record of 3 hours 37 minutes and nine seconds.
The 23-year-old - a two time world championships minor medalist - took gold ahead of 20km bronze medalist Jared Tallent of Australia, who had a personal best of 3hr 39:27, while Russia's Denis Nizhegorodov won the bronze in 3hr 40.14.
