French textile machinery manufacturers will be regularly visiting Bangladesh to explore marketing opportunities among the apparel producers, a top French business leader said Monday.
Evelyn Cholet, secretary general of the French Textile Machinery Manufacturers Association, said that Chinese, Japanese, German, Swiss and Dutch technologies have been dominating Bangladesh's market of nearly one billion dollars.
"So there are good potentials for French textile machinery makers to market their products in Bangladesh," She said while speaking at a luncheon meeting in the city.
France-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIFB) organised the meeting to introduce a five-member business delegation, which arrived in Dhaka on Saturday in a three-day mission, to its members.
CCIFB President Alamgir M Rahman presided over the meeting.
The delegation led by Ms. Cholet consisted of Alexandre Roussel of AESA Air Engineering, Serge Schrembacher of Dollfus & Muller, Francis Junker of Laroche SA and Phonesavanh Frichitthavong of Statubil France.
Ms Cholet said that her association of 39 textile equipment makers exports $1.4 billion worth of machineries to Europe, Asia and other places but exports to Bangladesh is insignificant at present.
"But we think more French companies will come and explore the opportunities in Bangladesh's textile machinery market."
France is the fifth biggest exporter of textile machinery worldwide.
The delegation was in the city to renew its relationship with Textile College of Engineering and Technology in Dhaka started ten years ago and introduce a new range of French machinery and technology to prospective buyers mainly among the members of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), said an official of the French embassy.
The official said this tour will mainly focus on companies belonging to BTMA, and not Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). "We will probably do another operation with the garments manufacturing companies later."
