Scrap duty-free car facility for MPs

Saturday, 24 May 2014

I agree with the Supreme Court lawyers who filed a writ petition with the high court seeking directives upon the government regarding allowing the members of parliament (MPs) duty-free car. Ours is a poor country, so why do our MPs need to bring for them luxurious and expensive cars? Even if the government allows MPs duty-free cars it must not be gas-guzzling luxury cars.
The government and their representatives should encourage people to be thrifty and economical; but we quite often see the money of the state being wasted lavishly. By their act, the MPs should not create an additional economic burden on the shoulder of the common people.
Many of our population are living under the line of poverty and they are deprived of the basic rights like food, shelter, education and medical etc. We believe any kind of luxury by the public representatives is shameful and obnoxious.
The members of parliament should discourage all types of extravagant expenditures and they should lead a simple life which will be exemplary for others. We hope the government will not wait for the directive from the high court and they will scrap the provision of duty-free car facility for the MPs.
