FARIDPUR, Oct 18: Seasonal employment crisis is prevailing in Faridpur for lack of agricultural work during this period of the year as about 80 per cent people of the district depend on agricultural work for survival.
According to a survey conducted by a local NGO, about 90,000 poor people of the eight upazilas of the district are selling their household-belongings to purchase food items.
Though the names of about 100,000 poor people have been listed here for regular development work at the wage of Tk 100 per day, the programme has not yet begun.
Some agricultural labourers told this correspondent that a 'silent famine' is prevailing in the district.
