Season\\\'s first rain brings relief in Rangpur region

RANGPUR, Apr 28 (BSS): The common people, farmers and officials expressed satisfaction and happiness getting huge relief following the season's first rainfall everywhere in Rangpur region last night.
According to official sources and common people, a drought like situation with hot weather had been prevailing in the country's northern region in recent months creating concern for the growing crops, human health and nature.
However, the long-awaited season's first rainfall showered for 47 minutes from 8:44pm to 9:35 pm last night in Rangpur with stronger nor'wester speeding up to 70.68 km per hours bringing relief to the common people, farmers, environment and nature.
Local Met Office recorded 12 mm rainfall at Rangpur city during the period and similar reports of drizzles and rains have also been reported from the other seven districts of Rangpur division.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) also recorded average rainfalls of 10 mm at Rangpur, 26.42 mm at Gaibandha, 5.11 mm at Kurigram, 5.4 mm at Lalmonirhat, 6.83 mm at Nilphamari, 6.53 mm at Dinajpur, 8 mm at Thakurgaon and 7.4 mm at Panchagarh during the past 24 hours ending at 6am today.
Besides, the sky has been remaining overcast with clouds with blowing cooler winds since last night making the weather pleasant for all and predicting possibilities of further showers at places in Rangpur region, official sources said.
The weather became little cooler and the dust covered leaves of the trees have been washed well making the air fresh after the showers.
Talking to BSS, Horticulture Specialist of the DAE Khandker Md Mesbahul Islam said the season's first rainfall came down as a blessing for the growing crops and fruits like mango, litchi, guava, lemon and jackfruits, vegetables and the nature as a whole.
