SEC takes steps to raise supervision, investors' awareness

The securities regulator has taken a set of measures to upgrade its market supervision system and increase investors' awareness, officials said.
As per the decision taken at a meeting held on January 10, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has decided to make the investors more alert by using the message - 'Investment in capital market is risky. Make investment with proper knowledge.'
From now on this warning message will be printed on various legal documents, like - papers regarding the investors' BO accounts, and margin loan etc.
The SEC has already informed the merchant banks and brokerage firms about its decision for creating awareness among the investors.
A scroll bearing the same message has also been incorporated on the websites of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE).
Besides, the regulator has arranged a series of training programmes for the officials of the SEC, the DSE, the CSE and the Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) for ensuring proper market supervision. These will he held at the Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM) from January 12 to January 25.
The programmes have been arranged under a project titled 'Improvement of Capital Market and Insurance Governance' with the help of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The regulatory training courses include topics like regulation of securities market, effective supervision of market, management and supervision of securities business, and market surveillance etc.
