Second Phase of employment scheme ends in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, May 10: The second phase of the short period employment generation scheme for the hard core poor organised by the Food, Disaster Management and Relief Ministry concluded here recently.
In the second phase the scheme was for 40 days but in the first phase it was for 100 days.
In the first phase each beneficiary had to work seven hours a day to earn Tk 100 but in the second phase they got Tk 120 per day each as remuneration.
Sources said this time local people were engaged in the supervision of the works including teachers and imams of the mosques.
Under the scheme 44,903 persons were employed in Nilphamari district. Out of which 5,166 persons from Saidpur Upazila, 10,380 from Sadar Upazila, 6,315 from Domar Upazila, 7,515 from kishorgonj Upazila, 8,518 from Jaldhaka Upazila and, 7,009 from Dimla Upazila were employed.
A total amount of Tk 215.5 million was allocated from the ministry for the scheme.
