Section 144 at 2 Kurigram villages
Thursday, 31 July 2014
The local administration has imposed Section 144 at two villages under Kurigram municipality following sporadic clashes between residents of the villages in the last two days that left over 150 people injured. Additional police super Sahab Uddin and locals said Ratan, 21, of Saudagarpara went to a cobbler’s shop at nearby Ekotapra five days ago to put air in his football. He beat cobbler’s son Robi Das, 16, after shoe polish accidentally splashed into his shirt. Following the incident, residents of the two villages engaged in a brawl which later went to arbitration. As they failed to settle the matter in the arbitration meeting on Wednesday night, the both groups, equipped with lethal weapons, clashed with each other. Several dwelling houses, shops and vehicles were also vandalised during the mayhem, according to a news agency.
