Section 144 imposed in Chhatak upazila

Local administration imposed section 144 at Jaua Bazar in Chhatak upazila of Sylhet district on Friday as the two factions of ruling Awami League called meeting at the same venue and time on the day. The restriction will remain in force from 8 am to 6 pm. Sources said the Muhibur Rahman Manik MP and Chhatak municipality Mayor Abul Kalam Chowdhury called a meeting at Jaua Bazar in the upazila at 3 pm, protesting the attack on the municipality mayor’s vehicle. Besides, upazila chairman Oliur Rahman Chowdhury Bakul called another meeting at the same venue and time. Apprehending trouble, the local administration has imposed the emergency section apparently to maintain law and order, according to a news agency.
