Security not confined to only physical arena, it's multi-dimensional: CA
Monday, 16 June 2008
Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed said Sunday that the issue of security was multi-dimensional and not confined only to ensuring physical safety in this modern age, reports UNB.
He also said security officials must understand that ensuring security does not mean their techniques should hamper public life --- a widespread practice in the country.
His statement came at a function organised to commemorate the 22nd founding anniversary of the Special Security Force. The agency is comprised of members from the army, navy, air force and police.
The chief adviser, who directly controls the force, was addressing the ceremony at the ICC at his office in the city Sunday.
The interim leader asked the SSF members to stay alert so that public life is not disturbed anyway when they perform their duty to protect a head of the state or head of the government.
He said the security system should not be designed in a way that can create any obstacles to public life.
"Keep attention so that common people do not become victim of unnecessary harassment or sufferings," he said.
"So you will have to remember about behavioral matters of compassion, tolerance and cooperation."
Better cooperation among the relevant departments could yield good results in ensuring full-proof security for the important persons, the chief adviser said.
He also said the SSF must prepare to regularly face various complexities and sensitive challenges.
He, however, said that the SSF would have to take preparatory steps as preventive measures keeping in mind that any situation could arise suddenly.
The function was told that currently motorcade of the chief adviser moves through normal traffic as he wishes to do so. The chief adviser's notion is not to create any obstacles to normal movement of the
common people because of his movement.
He thanked the SSF for adopting the measure.
On June 15, 1986, Presidential Security Force (PSF) was formed by promulgating Presidential Security Force Ordinance.
Later in 1991, the PSF was renamed as Special Security Force (SSF) and the force was put under the direct control of the head of the government.
In 2002, security rules were formulated under which it now performs to protect the President, the Prime Minister and other VVIPs.
SSF Director General Maj Gen Ashraf Abdullah Yusuf also spoke on the occasion while other senior SSF officials were present.
