Security tightened during Eid: DMP Commissioner

Security measures have been stepped up in the capital city for smooth and peaceful celebration of the Eid-ul-Azha this year, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah said.
"The law enforcement agencies, including plain cloth police have been asked to ensure special security for the city dwellers during the Eid," he told at a press conference at DMP media centre Thursday.
The commissioner said the DMP has taken area-wise security measures from with deployment of additional forces including plain cloth police personnel.
He said: "We have taken special security measures for cattle markets to check crimes in the cattle markets along with installing police control room and CCTV to prevent muggers and other criminal activities.
Asaduzzaman Miah said a total of 23 makeshift cattle markets would be set up in the capital city, adding, "No additional make shift cattle market would be installed and those markets would be brought under surveillance."
Besides, the DMP would provide money escort facilities to sacrificial animal traders for smooth transaction and their movement with money safely.
"Police would also set up check posts at 23 departure points of the capital city aimed at stopping smuggle of raw hide," the commissioner stated.
Asaduzzaman Miah said the law enforcement agencies would be deployed for patrolling during the Eid to stop all sorts of criminal activities including extortion.
He said the DMP has also undertaken steps for ensuring safe journey of the homebound people during the festival of the Muslim.
Additional Commissioner Ibrahim Fatemy, Didar Ahmed and Khandker Golam Faruque and other officials of the DMP, among others, were present at the press conference.
