Seed beds for Boro paddy under way

GAIBANDHA, Nov 21: The farmers of the Gaibandha district are preparing seed beds to grow seedlings for Boro cultivation in all the seven upazil during the current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said a total of 1, 22, 223 hectares of land of the district will be brought under Boro paddy cultivation this year with the production target of 4, 89, 654 tons of rice.
To cultivate it, the farmers will prepare the seed beds as many as 5864 hectares of land by sowing 4199 metric tons of seed this season.
An acute crisis of Boro seed was prevailing in the district from the beginning resulting some of the farmers of the district have managed to collect the seed of Boro paddy from BADC sales centers at reasonable prices.
The other farmers have collected the seed from the local markets at high rate when they failed to get them from the BADC sales centers.
Over 70 per cent seed beds have already been prepared and the rest will be completed within few days, said an official of DAE.
