NILPHAMARY, Aug 8: Registered seed producers of the northern region are producing high-yielding variety of paddy and seeds to ensure better agriculture production and to increase per hectare yield, sources said.
But the producers are not being provided with agriculture subsidy. Also, there are no agricultural credits for them. They have therefore demanded agriculture subsidy and bank loan. Currently, only BRAC and the Department of Agriculture Extension are enjoying those facilities, sources added.
Registered seed producers should be encouraged with requisite incentives, as use of certified seeds by the farmers is less than one per cent at present.
Seed Certification Officer of Nilphamari has been made in-charge of the three northern districts -- Nilphamari, Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat.
