Seek police help during Zakat distribution: IGP
Friday, 10 July 2015
The Disaster Management and Relief Ministry and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Friday asked people to seek police help during the distribution of Zakat clothes to avoid any untoward incident. At least 27 poor women and children were killed and 50 others injured in the stampede as they crowded for receiving Zakat clothes distributed by local Nurani Jarda Factory near Mymensingh municipality office. AIG (Media) of the Police Headquarters Nazrul Islam said the IGP has called for seeking police help to ensure security while distributing Zakat clothes or holding any other mass gathering. Anyone can inform the officer-in-charge (OC) of local police station or police super concerned at least a day before the scheduled programme for seeking help, the AIG said quoting the IGP as suggesting. The information can be sent through e-mail or over phone numbers of the OC or SP concerned. The numbers are available at the website: www.police.gov.bd. Action will be taken against those responsible if the public security is hampered due to any mass gathering staged without informing the police, he said, according to a news agency.
