Seeking justice for Felani
Saturday, 11 July 2015
We are very happy to see the Amnesty International, India taking the Felani murder case to the Indian High Court and hope this time the guilty person will face punishment he deserves and the family of the victim will find some solace. Incidents of killings on either side of the border cannot be accepted and must be stopped at any cost. The culture of killing does not go with the sub-continental tradition. The guilty people must be brought to justice and face consequences regardless of his or her nationality. A criminal is a criminal and no one should have sympathy for a criminal.
Felani, a 15 year old Bangladeshi girl was shot dead by the BSF when she was returning home in Bangladesh across the Indian border on January 7, 2011. The incident sparked a furore at home and abroad. The dead body of Felani hung from barbed wire fence which was looked upon as a sign of cruelty to a human being. I hope through Felani case, the border killing issue will get the focus it deserves and we shall see the end to border killings for all time to come.
