KHULNA, Feb 13: Khulna's flower market has become vibrant with the coinciding of spring festival and Valentine's Day.
Harnessing this demand, members of the voluntary organisation Khulna Food Bank and Blood Bank are expressing their love for the street children in an exceptional event. Members of the organisation are collecting money by selling flowers on the way to Khulna city to purchase educational materials, clothing and food items for the children.
Purchasing roses from the flower market of Jashore's Godkhali, members of the organisation split themselves in groups of five at 14 important points in the city today, selling the flowers.
They requested the pedestrians to purchase a rose. Urging them they said, "We have extended our hands to you to give love to the helpless children. We want to educate these children. Your little empathy can change their lives. We believe that if all the love is found the word 'street' associated with the name of these children will be erased."
They sold each rose at Tk 30 though it is around Tk 45 to Tk 50 in the market.
Md Saleh Uddin Shabuj, founding president of Khulna Food Bank and Blood Bank said, "We want to bring smile on the faces of street children by proving educational materials, clothes and food. It is our small effort to give them the light of education."
